Jewish and Proud
Jewish and Proud’s application to be part of the annual Brighton & Hove Pride Community Parade on 3 August has not been approved. The group’s application does not meet the criteria in the parade terms and conditions.
Pride has multi-stage procedures for processing parade group applications, which run over several months before Pride. Based on the initial information provided, the application was progressed to the next stage and a provisional place reserved for the group in May. A provisional place is not a confirmed place, and this is stated in the information sent over to applicants.
After the full required documentation was received and reviewed, it became clear the application did not meet the terms and conditions for taking part. The group did not meet the criteria for the Pride Community Parade’s clear aims of representing, promoting and celebrating local LGBTQ+ communities. On Thursday 18 July a meeting was held with members of Jewish and Proud to discuss why the application could not be progressed for this year and to listen to their views.
The Pride Community Parade invites applications to take part from local LGBTQI+ community groups and local staff LGBTQI+ forums or networks.
Each year we receive many more requests to take part than we have space available. Priority is given to established LGBTQI+ groups who are active in the local area.
We have a consistent approach to applications. We will be reviewing our processes for next year and will take feedback from all applicants.
